The Associate of Applied Science degree in Agriculture with a concentration in Urban Agriculture program is designed for students interested in developing intensive, value-added ag enterprises—whether they have access to just a few acres or are looking to enhance traditional farming operations. The program provides a strong foundation in core agricultural principles, while offering students the opportunity to focuses on building skills in food production in intensively-managed systems. Students learn to grow in small spaces, use regenerative practices, and explore the interconnectedness of a biodiverse environment. This interdisciplinary program draws from Agriculture, Horticulture, and Agribusiness, offering a well-rounded and innovative approach to modern agriculture.

They explore profitability by analyzing the factors that contribute to a successful operation and develop a strong foundation in safety by applying and promoting best practices across different agricultural settings. Why Students Choose This Program

At Northeast, our faculty and staff are passionate about exploring the latest technologies and innovations in agriculture. We’re not just teaching what’s new—we’re sharing real-world experiences, both the successes and the challenges. This balanced, forward-thinking approach prepares students to adapt, problem-solve, and lead in a rapidly evolving industry.

Students have the flexibility within the program to select options that best fit their career objectives. This program focuses on helping students develop enterprises that can be started with few acres or can add additional income streams to a traditional ag operation.  Students can also choose from a variety of specialized courses that align with their goals, including preparation for certifications such as the commercial pesticide applicator’s license, FAA drone pilot license, or commercial driver’s license. Additionally, a short course in cattle artificial insemination certification offers hands-on, career-focused training to further expand skill sets and job readiness.

Small class sizes in the Urban Ag program provide a unique opportunity for individualized attention, ensuring that each student can fully benefit from the expertise of our highly committed and experienced faculty. You will take classes with instructors who are deeply knowledgeable about their specialty but also reach across disciplinary lines to collaborate, create, and challenge each other (and you). With fewer students, instructors can engage directly with each individual, offering tailored guidance and feedback that addresses specific needs. Faculty and staff care about student and alumni success. At Northeast, you will create friendships and networks that will be a resource for your entire educational and professional journey.
