As a student in the Graphic Design program, you'll find the most effective way to get messages across in print, electronic, and film media using a variety of methods such as color, type, illustration, photography, animation, and various print and layout techniques. You'll learn the foundations of design from instructors who bring years of experience from the industry while using the same type of software that is used in the industry today.

The A.A.S. program prepares you for a variety of job opportunities in the exciting field of graphic design. The program emphasizes technical skill development using industry standard design software, as well as developing knowledge in the principles of design and artistic expression. You'll have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience by working on class projects. Internships with area businesses will provide you with real-life experiences. The A.A. program is a two-year liberal arts curriculum designed to transfer to a four-year college for the completion of a bachelor's degree in graphic design, graphic communication, media arts, or related areas. This program of study emphasizes conceptual skill development, image production, elements of design and graphic design related software proficiency.

Career Information

Graphic designers develop the overall layout and production design of magazines, newspapers, journals, corporate reports, and other publications. They also produce promotional displays, packaging, and marketing brochures for products and services, design distinctive logos for products and businesses, and develop signs. An increasing number of graphic designers also develop material for Internet Web pages, interactive media, and multimedia projects.
