Hands-On Learning Opportunities and Courses

Student working on wiring in lab. In the apprenticeship program students gain paid, on-the-job training experience working alongside experienced professionals. In addition to hands-on learning opportunities at a jobsite, students grow their knowledge in the classroom. Classroom instruction in the electrician apprenticeship includes courses covering topics such as:

  • Motor Control

Apprenticeship is an industry-driven, high quality career pathway where businesses can develop and prepare their future workforce and individuals can obtain paid work experience along with classroom instruction.

2,092.5 hours of classroom instruction and approximately 3 years of on-the-job learning.

Courses are offered in-person. On-the-job training is offered at an employer site.

Courses follow a traditional college semester schedule and are offered in-person at the Norfolk campus. Classes are typically Monday through Thursday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
