The Medication Aide training program at Northeast Community College prepares students to meet the requirements of the Nebraska Medication Aide Act and take on the responsibilities of a medication aide in assisted living and nursing facilities. This course provides comprehensive instruction in medication administration, basic pharmacology, state rules and regulations, drug classifications, medication orders, storage procedures, common medical abbreviations, and documentation practices.
Students will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe, responsible care under qualified supervision in nursing homes, long-term care centers, and assisted living facilities. Northeast Community College is approved by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services to offer this training, ensuring students are fully prepared to assume the critical role of a Medication Aide.

This course consists of 45 contact hours of lecture and clinical skills. If the class is offered Hybrid, the 20 hours are online and the 25 hours are classroom based.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be eligible to take the state administered written exam at an additional fee. After successfully passing this examination and completing the application procedure, the student's name will be placed on the medication aide registry at the Nebraska Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure, Credentialing Division.
