Genealogy, Estate Planning Help Offered at West Point Campus

WEST POINT, Neb. – Northeast Community College will offer some short-term classes in West Point that will provide recreational and professional opportunities.

The classes will be offered at the Northeast portion of the Nielsen Community Center, 200 Anna Stalp Ave., in West Point.

GENEALOGY – EVERY FAMILY HAS A STORY…. WHAT’S YOURS?  Discover how to begin researching your family’s story.  You’ll learn the basic research process, great on-line research sites, local resources, and ideas for sharing your story with family.  Monday, Jan. 27., 6-9 p.m. in Room 212, WPEC.  Instructor: S. GENEALOGY – STEPS TO RESEARCHING YOUR GERMAN ROOTS.  This class will explore the steps needed to be successful in locating your German family in American and German records. We’ll talk about the primary records used for German research and some tools to help you successfully navigate these records despite a potential language barrier. GENEALOGY – CHURCH RECORDS USED TO DISCOVER YOUR GERMAN ROOTS.  Church records are the foundation of German family history research. Once you know your village of origin, it’s time to dig in. Locate the best places to look for your records. You will be provided with several tools to help you navigate the language barrier. Get ready to explore your heritage. ESTATE PLANNING AND THE PROBATE PROCESS – WHAT, WHY, HOW. Death is a hard reality to confront but planning for the future can be very beneficial for those loved ones left behind. Preparing documents like wills, trusts and power of attorneys in advance may alleviate stress and bring comfort and clarity during the grieving process. This class will teach you: what to consider before having these documents prepared, how to protect your assets, minimize tax consequences, how to designate someone else to make important decisions for you and how to ensure those wishes are carried out.
