Northeast Recognized in the House of Representatives by Flood

NORFOLK, Neb. – It’s a wonderful day every day to be a Hawk.

That was especially true on Wednesday, Jan. 15, however, as the Northeast Community College Men’s Soccer Team and Coach Adam Potter were recognized on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C.

U.S. Rep. Mike Flood of Norfolk honored the soccer team for winning the NJCAA DII Men's Soccer National Championship in November. It was the first athletic national championship earned by Northeast since its inception.

Flood, who represents the 1st Congressional District where Norfolk and much of the Northeast 20-county service area is located, said the Hawks continually “defied the odds” in winning the national title.

“Their work is a testament to the work and character of our national champions, as well as the entire Northeast community,” Flood said.

This is the second time in recent years that Northeast Community College has been honored on the Congressional Floor. On Sept. 19, 2023, Flood honored Northeast for its 50th anniversary.

Northeast President Leah Barrett said she appreciated the efforts of Flood.

“It was great for Congressman Flood to give additional recognition to Northeast Community College,” Barrett said. “The time that the Congressman takes to recognize our students, employees and in this case, our student athletes, is greatly appreciated.”
