NPPD Donates Funds to Provide Scholarships

NORFOLK, Neb. – Since its inception 33 years ago, Nebraska Public Power District has donated more than $2 million for college scholarships.

Sue Fuchtman of Norfolk, NPPD’s representative of Subdivision 10, shared that news and presented a check for $15,000 on Thursday, Dec. 12, at the regular Northeast Community College Board of Governors’ meeting.

Fucthman noted that that NPPD’s Nebraska Open golf tournament and fundraiser has raised $2,015,000 over the years, with $401,000 of that amount going to Northeast for scholarships. Northeast and NPPD have forged a special bond over the decades, including many utility line graduates working in the field for NPPD.

Leah Barrett, Northeast president, thanked NPPD for the contribution and its commitment to helping those in need with scholarships.

The Nebraska Open takes place in September in Columbus.  According to NPPD, the 2024 tournament was sponsored by 42 businesses, whose donations help support the scholarships given to students at 11 campuses across the state.

Wells Fargo is the title sponsor, along with national, regional, and Columbus-based sponsors such as Behlen Manufacturing Co, Kelly Supply Co., and Nebraska Energy Federal Credit Union.
