NORFOLK, Neb. – “Let's face it, most of us are scoffers. But moments before zero hour, it does not pay to take chances.”
Relive the excitement of the greatest time of year for a kid – Christmas – as the Northeast/Norfolk Community Theatre will bring the classic, "A Christmas Story," to the stage.
Adam Peterson, Northeast Communication/Theatre instructor, is the director, with special assistance from Libby McKay.
So, is this the same story as the classic movie shown around the clock on TV on Dec. 24-25?
“Yes, there’s actually some more characters in this. We get to meet some more of the school children in the play,” Peterson said. “You’ll see all the same scenes with a couple of rewrites (for the stage).”
Performances will be Thursday to Saturday, Dec. 5-7, at 7:30 p.m. each day, along with matinees on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7-8, at 1:30 p.m. each day. Performances are at the Cox Activities Center Theatre.
Peterson said the children who perform are the stars of the show.
“It’s been a great experience,” he said. “I’m not used to working with kids, but it has been fun and it’s going well. I’m lucky to have Libby (McKay) as the children’s director/assistant director.”
More than a dozen children are performing. Several Northeast employees are either performing or assisting with props, costumes and more.

Flagpole scene
Children will take center stage in the upcoming Northeast/Norfolk Community Theatre production of “A Christmas Story,” including this scene where Flick gets his tongue stuck to a frozen flagpole. The play will be performed from Dec. 5-8, at the Cox Activities Center Theater. (Northeast Community College)
