Writer has Written About Military Families’ Experiences

NORFOLK, Neb. – An accomplished writer who recently published a book about military families will be presenting next week at Northeast Community College.

Amber Jensen, who has written, “The Smoke of You: A Memoir of Love During & After Deployment,” will be the next featured writer in the Visting Writer Series at Northeast.

This is the third and final event for the fall semester, with the presentation in the Union 73 Coffee Shop, on Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 4 to 5 p.m.

Jensen completed her undergraduate studies in English and Spanish at South Dakota State University. After teaching English in Mexico for five years, she continued her studies in literature and writing, earning a graduate degree at South Dakota State University and a master of fine arts in creative writing at the University of New Orleans.

Encouraged by mentors in both of these programs, she began drafting essays, finding homes for some of them in North Dakota Quarterly, Narrative Inquiry at Oh-Dark-Thirty and in Red, White & True: Stories from Military Veterans and their families World War II to Present.

“The Smoke of You: A Memoir of Love During & After Deployment,” is published by Milspeak Books.

The event is free and open to the public.
