Fall Concert Returns with Instrumental and Vocal Performances

NORFOLK, Neb. – For college students and community members who enjoy music, the return of the Northeast Community College Music Department’s fall concert was music to our ears.

The annual concert, which opens the concert season, took place Sunday, Oct. 6, in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Norfolk campus.

With Kevin McLouth as director, the Northeast/Community Concert Band performance included a lesser-known march by John Phillip Sousa, “The White Plume.” McLouth gave the history of the song, which was written by Sousa during his second stint with the U.S. Marine Band.

Margaret Schultz served as director of the Northeast Concert Choir. The College Choir performance included a violin solo by Haley Kennedy for the song “Harvest Moon.”

Schultz noted that humans seem to have a fascination with the moon, including songs about the harvest moon. She noted such songs as “Shine on Harvest Moon” from the early 1900s, Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” in 1992 and the traditional English folk song, “Harvest Moon,” that the Concert Choir performed.

Northeast music students represent the following programs of study on campus: Administrative Professional, Agronomy, Art, Business Administration, Business Entrepreneur, Computer info Systems, Criminal Justice, Diesel Tech, Digital Journalism, Diversified Ag, Early Childhood Ed, Elementary Ed, Electromechanical Tech, General Studies, Info Security, Info Tech, Media Arts, Music, Nursing, Pre Pro Pharmacy, Pre Pro Radiologic Tech, Psychology, Secondary Ed, Vet Tech, Utility Line and Web Visual App.
