Trio Student Plans to Pursue Nursing, Credits Parents for Work Ethic

NORFOLK, Neb. -- Elizabeth Kersch of Spencer is the September 2024 TRIO-CSP student of the month at Northeast Community College.

The daughter of Randy and Cyndi Kersch of Spencer, Elizabeth is completing her pre-nursing degree at Northeast Community College and upon acceptance into the nursing program, she plans to transfer to UNMC to complete her bachelor's degree in nursing.

Kersch is involved in CSF (Christian Student Fellowship) on campus. She also actively participates in TRIO events. She has proven herself to be an exceptional student with a cumulative GPA of 4.0.

In her personal life, Kersch credits her parents with inspiring the work ethic that she has today. She remembers watching how hard they worked, day in and day out.

Her mom has earned a master's degree and even teaches for Northeast. The Kersch family has been a strong support system for her. Her parents and two older brothers have always been there for her when she needed it most.

Kersch credits her high school history and social science teacher, Jeff Hart, with making a positive impact on her. She appreciated how he always encouraged her and her peers to think for themselves.

“He never told us what to believe; he just laid out the facts and let us decide for ourselves,” Kersch said.

Her microbiology teacher, Stacy Hoile, had this to say.

“Liz consistently comes prepared and eager to learn, both lectures and hands-on laboratory activities. It’s clear that she puts in the time to study and understand the material. With the work ethic that she shows consistently in my class, I have no doubt that she will excel in her nursing program and beyond!”
