McPHERSON, Kan. – There is nothing like the excitement that comes with the first time of doing something.
The Northeast Community College Livestock Judging Team competed in its first meet of the season recently, with most members competing at the collegiate level for the first time.
The team did well overall, with many positive results from which to build. The judging meet took place on Thursday, Sept. 19, at McPherson, Kan.
“While this wasn’t a large contest, it was a good learning experience, especially considering nine of the 11 members of the judging team competed in their first collegiate contest today,” said Mike Roeber, Northeast agriculture instructor and livestock judging coach. “Cole Miller built on the successes he had last spring and had another good day.”
Miller, of Charter Oak, Iowa, was second in Cattle Judging, 11th Overall and 12th in Reasons. Journee Reeson, Hoskins, was first in Placings. Addi Crockett, Davenport, was sixth in Placings and ninth in Cattle Judging. Kale Taubenheim, Amherst, was 10th in Placings, and Adyson Groteluschen, Columbus, was 12th in Cattle Judging.
“While placing awards were not given at the contest, it was good to see three of the newcomers to the Northeast team have a good day in placings, led by Journee Reeson. Addi Crockett and Adyson Groteluschen showed success in the cattle division of the contest,” Roeber said.
Other team members competing were Kyle Rehak, Wisner; Marah Dornhoff, Minden; Kelton Bruhn, Stanton; Mason Mackeprang, Bloomfield; Miles Wright, Burwell; and Jillian Adams, Scribner.
Northeast’s next competitions will be at Flint Hills Classic, Hutchinson, Kan., on Friday, Sept. 27, and Aksarben in Grand Island on Sunday, Sept. 29.
Working at Norfolk Beef Expo
Northeast Community College livestock judging team members assisted at the Norfolk Area Chamber of Commerce’s Beef Expo earlier this month with everything from setting up and tearing down to helping in the showring. The team competed at its first judging meet on Thursday, Sept. 19, with two more meets in September. (Northeast Community College)
