O’Neill Courses Include Help for Workers Distributing Medication

O’NEILL, Neb. -- The O'Neill extended campus has some fall classes that offer such things as assistance with electronic devices, bird watching and getting more out of watching the night sky.


MEDICATION AIDE. The Medication Aide program is designed to prepare you to meet the requirements of the Medication Aide Act and the responsibilities of the medication aide in an assisted living facility or a nursing facility. This course includes information regarding medication administration, pharmacology, rules and regulations, classification of drugs, orders, storage, abbreviations, and an overview of commonly used drugs and documentation. After you successfully complete the course, you are eligible to make an application for testing by a designated tester for the State of Nebraska.

Passing the examination will entitle your name to be placed on the Medication Aide State Registry. Mon., Tue., Wed., 8 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. in Room 105. Instructor: Karen Hoffman. Three credits, $384 plus $73.30 for textbooks. Oct. 14-26 (HLTH 1120/24S) CRN#16901

SMART DEVICES. Discover how to use a Smartphone, tablet, or other mobile device for emailing, browsing the web, managing time, getting directions, taking notes, taking photos, and listening to music. Explore free applications that can be downloaded to your device. Participants need to bring their own device fully charged and know their Apple ID and password or Google ID and password. Wed., 6-9 p.m. in Room 125. Instructor: Emily Morrow. $30. Oct. 16.

INTRODUCTION TO BIRDING. Watching and studying birds has become a hobby or passion for over 45 million people. It can be a low-cost pastime or serious study pursuit. However you wish to jump in, it is fun, rewarding, and offers the chance to meet friendly and interesting people while exploring the great outdoors. Topics to include birding nomenclature, identification techniques and resources, birding etiquette and attire, field guide and equipment recommendations. If you have a bird field guide, bring that along. Recommended (not required) field guide – National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America 7th edition – available to purchase online for approximately $25. ASTRONOMY: HOW TO ENJOY THE NIGHT SKY. This course will concentrate on methods and equipment for sky enjoyment starting with your eyes and equipment you may already have – including your smartphone, laptop, or tablet.  This class largely avoids the science behind the objects in the sky and will help you enjoy them without special equipment, use the equipment you already have, or select equipment to buy if you want to take your interest to the next level.  Bring a laptop. tablet, or smartphone if you have them (not required).  Please note - this class is different from the course previously offered.  If you took the previous class, you might enjoy this one too.
