Northeast Community College Enrollments Demonstrate Growth and Stability

NORFOLK, Neb. – Northeast Community College’s 10th Day Enrollment Report indicates enrollments continued for a third year in a row at an all-time high level.

“In 2022 and 2023 Northeast, experienced its largest enrollment in the last 10 years, and Northeast has matched that enrollment again this year,” said Amanda Nipp, vice president of Student Services. “Compared to Fall 2023, Northeast has seen an increase of 98 students, the majority of those students being high school students enrolling dual or college credit classes.”

The 10th day Enrollment Report is a standard among the higher education community that captures opening enrollment data each semester. It is prepared by Northeast’s Institutional Research and Analytics Office.

Northeast reports 5,601 students were enrolled as of the 10th day of the Fall 2024 semester. Compared to Fall 2023, which was the college’s highest enrollment on record, headcount is up 98 students. In addition to increases in Early College students, Northeast also saw an 8.2% rise in returning students -- those who had stopped out and then returned to take classes, and a 19% jump in students transferring to Northeast.

Northeast is focused on providing opportunities to learners from across the Northeast service area to earn a degree or gain a credential, which includes upskilling, to ensure that we have a strong regional workforce.

“To see students who have stopped out, return to Northeast, means we are providing important opportunities for learners in our area to reach their educational and workforce goals,” said Charlene Widener, vice president of Educational Services.

Area high school students continue to seek out Northeast to guide them in their education. The 10th day Enrollment Report confirms that a record setting 2,107 Early College students have enrolled at Northeast this fall, up 6.5% or 128 students from Fall 2023.

Northeast offers no cost college classes to high school students, and that aligns with the college’s strategic priorities, including student pathways to success, excellence and innovation in educational programs and effective resource management.

The report will be shared at the Northeast Board of Governors monthly meeting on Thursday, Sept. 12, in Norfolk.

“We are pleased that students and families have chosen Northeast. Dual credit continues to be a popular choice for students and offers a great way for families to lower the costs of higher education,” said President Leah Barrett. “Our employees remain committed to ensuring students are prepared for what comes after Northeast. The 10th day Enrollment Report demonstrates that we continue to empower every person in the region to achieve their academic and workforce goals.”
