Northeast Hosts Professional Training for STEM Instructors and Others

NORFOLK, Neb. – From the introduction to the microbit to uses for AI, a group of high school technology instructors and community college officials participated in a professional development workshop at Northeast Community College this week.


Leah Barrett, Northeast Community College president, provided the welcome Tuesday, July 30, for the event, which featured teachers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Nebraska Public Power District put on the event, along with Nucor, Prairie STEM, Metro Community College and Northeast Community College.

Along with Northeast instructors, some representatives of Metro in Omaha were on hand. Events on both days were at the Applied Tech building, with a tour of campus part of events on Wednesday, July 31.

High school instructors from the Omaha metro, Northeast Nebraska and beyond took part. Topics included the microbit, which enables students to experience coding and digital making, along with cybersecurity, using artificial intelligence and more.
