NORFOLK, Neb. -- A total of 509 contestants from 36 schools participated in the district livestock judging contest held at Northeast Community College on Thursday, Jan. 25.
The schools could enter up to 10 students in the senior division and 10 students in the junior division. The judging included breeding and market species of cattle, hogs, sheep and goats.
Hosting it indoors at the climate-controlled Chuck Pohlman Ag Complex helped to keep students dry and comfortable. The students had 12 minutes to evaluate each class before moving on to the next set of four animals.
Mike Roeber, Northeast ag instructor and judging coach, and the Northeast team of livestock judging members, helped to put on the contest, including listening to oral reasons.
The following are the results:
District 3 Juniors
Individuals: 1. Linden Anderson, Lyons-Decatur Northeast; 2. Emerson Bellar, Wisner-Pilger.
Teams: 1. West Point, Charlie Dinslage, Josie Ritter, Collin Nebuda, Ian Schiller, Katrina Moyer, Blaize Brockmann, Blake Wegner, Colby Anderson, Peyton Penrose and Ethan Harstick.
2. North Bend, Hallie Mottl, Ryder Brabec, Breck Reznicek, Samantha Cummings, Hayden Frana, Mia Beebe, Lindsey Hunke, Kassie Swanson, Fiona Kavan and Kelsey Bunn.
District 3 Seniors
Individuals: 1. Brooke Hilgenkamp, Arlington; 2. Hayden Schroeder, Wisner-Pilger.
Teams: 1. Arlington, Brooke Hilgenkamp, Lizzie Meyer, Libby Hegemann, Peyton Timm, Blaine Vogt and Taylor Arp.
