West Point offering classes from computer basics to estate planning

WEST POINT -- The West Point extended campus is offering some classes, including computer assistance and professional development.


BASIC COMPUTER 1. An introduction to basic level computer skills that includes powering the computer on and off, using a mouse and keyboard, utilizing the desktop, and launching programs. This class is for the person with limited computer knowledge or none. Thurs., Feb. 1, 6-9 p.m. in Room 212, WPEC. Instr. G. Lampman. $30. (INFO5105) CRN#70096 

BASIC COMPUTER 2. Learn the next level computer skills. Concepts include using the Windows operating system and working with tool bars, task bar, files, folders, and keyboard shortcuts. Password management will also be covered. This class is for the person who has some computer knowledge and can use the mouse and keyboard. Thurs., Feb. 15, 6-9 p.m. in Room 212, WPEC. Instr. G. STREAMING SERVICES. Learn about streaming services! Some of the most popular streaming devices are Roku, Chromecast, Firestick and Apple TV. You can enjoy watching Netflix, Hulu, ESPN, Amazon videos or other services in order to actually stream shows, movies and music. Learn the ins and outs of streaming. GAME DEVELOPER PROGRAMMING. Learn the basics of programming. This course is designed to teach the fundamentals of programming and computational thinking; instill confidence in working with technology; and show how to create simple apps and games. BEGINNING WINE MAKING. Discover the winemaking process, wine styles, testing and adjusting the must and equipment needed for home winemaking. The winemaking process as it relates to a wine kit will be stressed. Topics such as racking, topping, sulfiting and sanitizing will be covered in-depth, and a wine kit will be made. ESTATE PLANNING & THE PROBATE PROCESS - WHAT, WHY, HOW. Death is a hard reality to confront but planning for the future can be very beneficial for those loved ones left behind. Preparing documents like wills, trusts and power of attorneys in advance, may alleviate stress and bring comfort and clarity during the grieving process. This class will teach you: what to consider before having these documents prepared, how to protect your assets, minimize tax consequences, how to designate someone else to make important decisions for you and how to ensure those wishes are carried out.
