Student Activities Council ensures students are engaged in college life

NORFOLK, Neb. – A group of students at Northeast Community College are committed to making sure their fellow students are engaged in college events and activities on the Norfolk campus. Members of the Student Activities Council (SAC) volunteer their time and work to grow college engagement, build their resume, create an inclusive campus, and embrace college experiences.

Team members and their advisors work to ensure that students are kept busy outside the classroom while on campus through a host of events - whether it is at an athletic contest, bringing in a musician or comedian, through public service projects or spending the night watching a movie.

“For example, as a group we do multiple activities such as Wacky Wednesdays,” said Alissa Gubbels, college engagement coordinator. “Each Wednesday we have an event which could include extreme bowling, dances, hypnotists, Hawk Squad games, free food, free swag items, and even free experiences to our students on and off campus.”

Previous SAC teams and advisors at Northeast have earned regional national recognition for their work from the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA). APCA has bestowed honors to Northeast students and staff including Midwest Region Advisor of the Year, Midwest Region Student Programmer of the Year, National Student Programmer of the Year and additional awards for campus promotion items and activities.
