Congressman Smith visits Northeast in South Sioux City

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. – A member of Nebraska’s congressional delegation learned more about Northeast Community College during a visit to the institution’s South Sioux City extended campus on Wednesday. Rep. Adrian Smith was briefed by college representatives on the work of Northeast and other community colleges in meeting the workforce needs of the region and nation.

“We had a nice meeting with Congressman Smith,” said Cyndi Hanson, dean of workforce development at Northeast. “He asked a lot of great questions about our new project to expand our CDL (commercial driver’s license) truck driving program and the expansion of welding at this campus, the work of community colleges in general, and other important topics. Congressman Smith expressed the value of what Northeast does and how it’s often underappreciated. It’s good to know we have a champion at that level.”

In addition to Hanson, Smith met with Tracy Kruse, vice president of development and external relations at Northeast, and Pat Wojcik, of South Sioux City, a district III representative on the college’s Board of Governors, Cori Koopman, director of corporate and foundation relations, Chris Andersen, truck driving instructor, and Katie Towler, director of the South Sioux City extended campus were involved in the visit.
