Graphic design program to host annual portfolio show

NORFOLK, Neb. – Northeast Community College graphic design students will be showcasing their work during the program’s 13th annual portfolio show. This year’s event will be held Sat., May 6, from 1-4 p.m., in the upper level of Union 73 on the Northeast campus, 801 E. Benjamin Ave., in Norfolk. It is free and open to the public.

Phillip Schimonitz, graphic design instructor, said the students have gathered their best and favorite projects from their previous classes and have spent most of the semester refining and preparing those pieces for the show. He said each portfolio is unique and each is personalized.

“The purpose of the Portfolio Show is to highlight students’ work and prepare them for professional level job seeking interviews,” he said. “The show is the final project series for Associate of Applied Science (two-year professional degree) students. They will be presenting their best graphic projects created over their last two years of study and internship experiences.”

Students who will present their work at the show include Cora Ferguson, Raymond; Courtney Fowlkes, Meadow Grove; Lauryn Gill, Ponca; Leah Glendenning, Kearney; Emilie James, Norfolk; Aubrie Klabenes, Neligh; Mackenzie McKenna, Wayne; Caleb Neben, Lexington; Jacob Ross, O’Neill; and Lilly Stonehocker, Arlington.

Northeast’s AAS graphic design program emphasizes technical skill development using industry standard design software, as well as developing knowledge in the principles of design and artistic expression. Internships are also available with area businesses.
