NORFOLK, Neb. – The annual Spring Tour by the Northeast Community College Singer’s Express and Jazz Machine is about to get underway. The two groups will travel a combined 2,200 miles throughout Nebraska, South Dakota, and Iowa bringing music to schools and promoting Northeast Community College and its programs.
The Jazz Machine program includes several styles of jazz including Samba, Funk, Swing, Jazz Waltz, Boss Nova, and a ballad. Several soloists will be featured throughout the program. The Northeast Jazz Machine is under the direction of Kevin McLouth.
McLouth said, “This will be a great experience for the students. They have been working hard and this will be an experience that most of them have never had before.”
The Jazz Machine’s schedule, with show times in parentheses, includes:
Mon., April 24 – Gregory, So. Dak. (8:30 a.m.); Colome, So. Dak. (10:30 a.m.); Bassett (1:30 p.m.)
Tue., April 25 – Osceola (8:30 a.m.); Stromsburg (10:30 a.m.); Central City (2:30 p.m.)
Wed., April 26 – Madison (8:15 a.m.); Howells (10:30 a.m.); Shelby (1:45 p.m.).
Thur., April 27 – Pleasanton (8:15 a.m.); Amherst (10:30 a.m.); Arcadia (2 p.m.).
Fri., April 28 – Tripp, So. Dak. (8:30 a.m.); Avon, So. Dak. (10:20 a.m.); Niobrara (1:15 p.m.).
The Singer’s Express program hangs its hat on several popular songs from the past (both recent and not so recent). Some of the songs include “Old Time Rock and Roll,” “Dynamite,” “Happy,” and “Jailhouse Rock.” The Northeast Singer’s Express is under the direction of Margaret Schultz.
“The students are excited to present their program,” Schultz said, “and this tour represents a culmination of their hard work throughout the year.”

Wed., April 26 – Wynot (8:15 a.m.); Hartington (10:30 a.m.); Verdigre (2 p.m.).
Thur., April 27 – Chambers (8:15 a.m.); Bartlett (10:45 a.m.); Cedar Rapids (1:45 p.m.).
Fri., April 28 – Tilden (8:15 a.m.); Neligh (10:30 a.m.); Elgin (1:30 p.m.)
Members of the Singer’s Express are Carter Hasemann, Wayne, Reilly Donscheski, Palmer, Emily Hespe, Springview, Destiny Holland, Norfolk, Connor Larsen, Tilden, Jeremiah Polak, Coleridge, Collin Sowards, Maryville, Mo., Rhiannon Van Fleet, Norfolk, and Ram Watters, Panama.
Members of the Jazz Machine are Saxophones – Alex Hemian, Randolph, Alli Kotrous, Verdigre, Jae Seger, Amherst, and Brianna Worley, Lincoln. Trombones – Christopher Efta, Pierce, and James Schoenberner, Gayville, So. Dak. Trumpets – Rachael Nuernberger, Wakefield, and Gabe Ramos, Chadron. Rhythm Section - Sam Reed, Aurora, Tony Strizek, Brainard, and Michael Wemhoff, Norfolk.
To conclude the tour, the Northeast Music Department will host a post tour concert featuring the two groups on Sun., April 30, at 2 p.m., in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Northeast campus in Norfolk. Both groups will perform their tour programs and the community is invited to join them in this celebration of music.
