Unique set developed for latest Northeast-NCT theatrical production

NORFOLK, Neb. – Actors in the latest Northeast Community College-Norfolk Community Theatre production won’t have to look far if they get lost – a map is literally at their feet.

For the latest production, Leaving Iowa, Chet Harper, scenic designer, and Lonn Atwood, scenic artist, have created a multi-dimensional set that includes a car for the actors to sit it with a map of Iowa partially folded up and draped below them on stage. A side mirror even includes a reverse image of a sign that reads, “Welcome to Iowa.”

Leaving Iowa, written by Tim Clue and Spike Manton, is the story of Don Browning, a middle-aged writer, who returns home and decides to finally take his father’s ashes to his childhood home, as requested. However, when he discovers his grandmother’s house is now a grocery store, he begins traveling across Iowa searching for a proper resting place for his father.

The show is directed by Brittney Lechner, a graduate of Northeast, who teaches 7th, 8th, and 9th Grade English at Stanton Community Schools. She is also director of the high school’s Play Production (one-act) team. Emmalene Aubrey is the assistant director and Atwood serves as production manager.

Cast members include Stacey Aldag, John Boeshart, Ashley Brown, Elise Fjell, Micah Goedeken, Jonathan Hernandez, Isabel Larson, Dustyn Loeffler, Lasten Mchilima, Laurel Scheffler, Holly Stanley, Wendy Swenson, Ben Temple, Mel Temple, Tyrel Whalen, Brianna Worley, and Chad Young.

Crew members include Lonn Atwood, Emmalene Aubrey, Seth Brooks, Elise Fjell, Sophie Frank, Chet Harper, Carter Hasemann, Sophie Ippensen, Ash Janise, Leah McKay, Melanie Mann, Kaitlin Nathan, Darrel Novacek, Katherine Partee, Adam Peterson, Kat Stuthman, and Halle Wolf.
