NORFOLK, Neb. – Two authors from Nebraska will be featured during the next Visiting Writers Series event of the spring semester at Northeast Community College.
Lucy Adkins and Kassandra Montag will read from their work during a presentation on Wed., March 2, at 4 p.m. in Union Coffee Shop in Union 73 on the Norfolk campus.
Adkins is a writer of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. Her poetry has been published in many journals and anthologies, and her chapbooks include One Life Shining: Addie Finch, Farmwife from Pudding House Press, and Two-Toned Dress, which was the winner of the 2019 Blue Light Press Poetry Prize. A Crazy Little Thing (forthcoming from WSC Press) is her first full-length book of poetry.
Her fiction has also appeared in the South Dakota Review and the Voices from The Plains anthology, and she is co-author of the Essential Writing and Creativity Series, which includes Writing in Community: Say Goodbye to Writer's Block and Transform Your Life, and The Fire Inside: A Companion for the Creative Life.
For over 25 years, Adkins has served as a leader of generative writing groups and workshops and is currently a writing instructor for Larksong Writers Place. She earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Montag is an award-winning poet, novelist, and essayist. Her work has appeared in journals and anthologies such as Midwestern Gothic, Nebraska Poetry, Prairie Schooner, and Mystery Weekly Magazine. Her debut novel, After the Flood, has been published in fourteen languages and has been optioned for television. WSC Press published her full-length book of poetry, Chorus of the Underground Sea, in Dec. 2021. Her work has been published in fifteen languages and has been optioned for film.
Montag holds a master’s degree in English Literature. She lives in Omaha with her husband and two sons.
