Nearly 600 students compete in district livestock judging contest at Northeast

NORFOLK, Neb. – Northeast Community College’s Chuck M. Pohlman Agriculture Complex in Norfolk was the site of a FFA District Livestock Judging Contest on Thur., Jan. 27. Five-hundred-seventy-eight contestants from 49 schools participated in the event.

Michael Roeber, agriculture/livestock judging instructor at Northeast, said teams could have up to eight members with the top four scores counted.

“The top 25-percent of the teams in the district contest qualified for the state competition, which will be held during the Nebraska FFA Convention in Lincoln in April,” he said.

Individual and team results include

District 2 Juniors

Individual: 1st - Taya Hambleton, Leigh; 2nd - Burke Settles, Raymond Central.

Team: 1st - Raymond Central (Erika Donahue, Addison Grant, Carlee Wolfe, JayLynn Kliment, Ben Kliment, Cade Grant and Burke Settles); 2nd - Lakeview (Adyson Groteluschen, Gunnar Wolfe, Kyle Olmer, Rory Korte, Sebastian De La Cruz, Blake Anderson, and Brittney Beiermann).

District 2 Seniors

Individual: 1st - Zach Anderson, Lakeview; 2nd - Barrett Andel, David City

Team: 1st - Lakeview (Carly Schaad, Makiaya De La Cruz, Zach Anderson, Niels Schmidt and MaKenna Lutjelusche); 2nd - Newman Grove (Autumn Patzel, Mara Ranslem, Austin Wiese, Noah Sorenson, Cora Patzel, and Trent Patzel.)

District 3 Juniors

Individual:  1st - Brooke Hilgenkamp, Arlington; 2nd - Libby Hegemann, Arlington.

Team: 1st - Arlington (Blaine Vogt, Brooke Hilgenkamp, Lizzie Meyer, Libby Hegemann, John VonBehren, Payton Timm, Aaron Fuchs, Shane Japp); 2nd - Wisner-Pilger (Trey Stewart, Braxton Siebrandt, Danika Alexander, Jocelyn Russman, Ethan Buhrman, Bowdy Bird, Karly Steinmeyer and Keegan Poppe).

District 3 Seniors

Individuals: 1st - Owen Heller, Wisner-Pilger; 2nd - Kyle Rehak, Wisner-Pilger.

Team: 1st - Wisner-Pilger (Kennedie Ott, Kayla Svoboda, Addisyn Albers, Cameryn Bellar, Jaleigh Hallsted, Emma Heller, Owen Heller, and Kyle Rehak); 2nd - Oakland-Craig (Shea Johnson, Maycie Johnson, Jonathan Dixon, Caleb Sechler, Bailey Helzer, Johnna Peterson, Trevor Weitzenkamp and Laryn Johnson).

District 4 Juniors

Individual: 1st - Lilly Pehrson, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge; 2nd - Reagan Choat, Plainview.

Team: 1st - Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (Connor Korth, Carter Korth, Faith Urwiler, Jayden Campbell, Lilly Pehrson, Yasmin Miranda, Tanner Hansen, and Julia Johnson); 2nd - Hartington-Newcastle (Tessa Haarh, Grayden Hochstein, Brett Stevens, Ava Noecker, Ryan Pick, Carson Heithold, Matthew Loecker).          

District 4 Seniors

Individual: 1st - Samantha Pehrson, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge; 2nd - Sara Karnes, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.

Team: 1st - Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (Samantha Pehrson, Sara Karnes, Aaron Bloom, Grant Erwin, Jayden Pick, Miles Forsberg, Madalynn Graham, and Berniece McCorkindale); 2nd - Summerland (Madison Melcher, Logan Mueller, Dillon Moser, Ty Rix, Levi Cronk, Trevor Thomson, Cassidy Bearinger, and Jacob Napier.)
