Northeast music department plans Pop Concert Nov. 14

NORFOLK, Neb. - The music department at Northeast Community College will continue its concert series in mid-November with a Pop Concert. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Sun., Nov. 14, at 2 p.m., in the Cox Activities Center Theatre on the Norfolk campus.

The Northeast Singers Express, an audition swing choir, performs on campus during the academic year and on tour in the spring to high schools in the region. At the Pop Concert, the Singers Express will perform selections from Zootopia and Dolly Parton, among others.

Margaret Schultz, music instructor, is the director of the Northeast Singers Express and will accompany the group.

Parker Barnes, Wahoo; Reilly Donscheski, Palmer; Destiny Holland, Norfolk; Shelby Klaumann, Gladstone; Kellan Sager, Norfolk; Madison Tunender, Atkinson; Rhiannon Van Fleet, Norfolk; and Hannah Vokoun, Chelsea, Iowa.

The Northeast Jazz Machine is an audition jazz band that performs at Northeast basketball games, goes on tour in the spring to area schools, and performs at Northeast Community College concerts.

Serina Babcock, Verdigre; Emily Carstens, Creighton; Hunter Celesky, Ceresco; Alex Heiman, Randolph; Garret Jorgensen, Gayville, So. Dak.; Micah Judds, Ashland; Allie Kotrous, Verdigre; Hannah Maslonka, Battle Creek; Ethan McCorkle-Dieken, Lincoln; Cayden O'Brien, Norfolk; Dominic Pavlik, Verdigre; Clint Oldehoef, Exeter; Gabe Ramos, Chadron; Nate Ruhrer, Ponca; James Schoenberner, Gayville, So. Dak.;
Ally Staub, Albion; Anthony Strizek, Valparaiso; and Alison Wisnieski, Norfolk.

The Northeast Area Jazz Ensemble (NAJE), incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1980, is a group of local musicians who come together to keep jazz and big band music alive. It is a registered non-profit that performs for donations around the area and then turns those donations into scholarship opportunities. It will perform jazz and pop standards from over the past 50-years at the concert.

Kevin McLouth, instrumental music instructor/director of instrumental activities, is the director of the Northeast Jazz Machine and NAJE.
