NORFOLK, Neb. - Auditions for positions on the Northeast Community College dance team in the 2021-22 academic year will be held this summer.
Tryouts will take place on Tues. July 27, from 5-9 p.m., in the Cox Activities Center on the Norfolk campus. An informational meeting over Zoom will be held July 6.
The non-competitive team will begin performing in the fall semester during home volleyball and basketball games.
Team Coach Erika Rupprecht said she has had an interest in a dance team at Northeast long before she was a student at the College. She said recently, a number of prospective Northeast students indicated they would be interested in participating in dance or on a dance team while attending college. After she met with Athletic Director Jerrett Mills, it was agreed that the team would perform as a club/organization in the coming year.
“I am really excited for this opportunity to be the Northeast dance team coach,” Rupprecht said. “I feel like this is a dream I have wanted since 2014! I am hoping that having a dance team at Northeast will make it easier for our students who thought they would have to leave their passion for dance in high school!”
Rupprecht, who also serves as student activities coordinator at Northeast, began dance through a studio in her hometown of Clarkson from the time she was five-years old through high school, which also included a part-time job as a dance teacher assistant. She and her sister, Rachel, coached the Clarkson-Leigh dance team from 2016 through February of this year.
After graduating from Northeast, Rupprecht transferred to Wayne State College where earned a spot on the Aristocats dance team where she was co-captain and team captain.
“For anyone who would like more information ahead of time, there will be an information meeting over Zoom on July 6,” Rupprecht said. “If a student is planning to try out for the Northeast dance team, I would highly suggest they attend this meeting. All information regarding the audition process will be shared during this call. We will also discuss team uniforms, practices, performances, and expectations.”
Auditions are open to all Northeast students.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m., in Zoom Room 667-843-2787. For those unable to attend the information meeting, contact Rupprecht at email@example.com, call (402) 844-7177 or text (402) 750-9314.
