Northeast hosts Nebraska High School Journalism Championship

NORFOLK, NE – Hundreds of students from over 50 Nebraska high schools were on the Norfolk campus of Northeast Community College this week to take part in the 2018 Nebraska State Journalism Championships. The one-day event was sponsored by the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA), the Norfolk Area Sports Council and Northeast Community College.

Omaha Marian High School took Class A team honors. Millard West was second followed by Omaha Westside. Papillion-La Vista, Elkhorn, Millard North, Gretna and Omaha Central round out the top eight.

Columbus Scotus won Class B with Yutan as runner-up. Other teams finishing in the top eight include Sandy Creek, Mt. Michael Benedictine, Fairbury, Southern Valley, Dorchester and Wood River.

Individual awards were presented in several categories ranging from advertising to editorial cartooning to news writing to yearbook. Results are available on the NSAA website at www.nsaahome.org/journalism.
