At Northeast, you will gain hands-on experience from experienced teachers and mentors in real school settings. You'll have the opportunity to visit with professors from the schools of education at four-year institutions and to begin to work on professional portfolios. Teacher education students take three types of courses. General courses are required of all associate of arts degree candidates and promote general knowledge. Subject courses help you learn the subjects you will teach. For an understanding of the teaching profession, you'll take professional education courses that teach you how to teach. Teacher education students have opportunities for practical experience in elementary classrooms while completing course work.

We have an active Student Education Association (SEA) that assists in community efforts. They are also active in the statewide organization of SEA. Members have many opportunities to hone leadership skills and to network with educators around the state.

Schools require a criminal background check prior to employment. If you have any a criminal record, you may not be eligible for employment as an educator. Please check with an advisor.
