Summary: The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining the company’s financial and payroll records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and conformity with Federal and State regulatory requirements related to telecommunication carriers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned. Financial Accounting: 25% of time • Prepares and posts journal entries in accordance with established procedures to ensure accurate financial records. • Reconciles subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger. Reviews accounts for erroneous entries and reasonableness. • Completes month-end closing procedures. Prepares financial statements and reports. • Prepares audit work papers and assists with audits. • Prepares invoices for shareholders, employees, and tenants. Accounts Payable: 45% of time • Assigns general ledger account numbers to invoices and reviews invoices for accurate sales and use tax application. Approves accounts payable invoices in accordance with specific parameters. • Sends letters to vendors regarding outstanding checks and follows up as necessary. Prepares unclaimed property filings. Payroll Administration: 25% of time • Processes bi-weekly payroll. Pays employee reimbursements. Updates payroll records. • Updates employees’ retirement plan information and issues checks. • Prepares and files payroll tax reports. Completes miscellaneous payroll-related surveys. • Prepares for and participates in audits of payroll-related information. Regulatory and Tax Reporting: 5% of time • Prepares data requests, miscellaneous tax returns, excise tax returns and sales tax returns accurately and in accordance with established procedures. • Pays property tax. Prepares shareholder tax distributions. • Monitors regulatory and tax rules to ensure compliance. • Participates in audits of filed information. Other Responsibilities: • Follows all Employee and Safety Handbook procedures. • Attends training seminars, as necessary. • Works outside normal business hours to manage workload. • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience: Associate’s degree with accounting coursework; or combination of education and experience in a related field. Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, auditors, vendors, and the public. Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret diagrams and graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations when only limited standardization exists. Ability to apply concepts of accounting and bookkeeping. Computer Skills: Be proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, database, web browser and e-mail, and accounting software. Ability to learn and understand software required to make tax filings, regulatory filings and data requests. Other Skills: Excellent typing, keyboard, and 10-key calculator skills. Equipment Used: Personal computer, printers, scanning and copying equipment, inserting and postage machine, 10-key calculator, and other general office equipment.
