Job Description: The Nebraska Department of Transportation's Diesel Mechanic Internship is an opportunity for students currently enrolled in a Diesel Technology program to gain valuable work experience while completing their education. Opportunities are available statewide at multiple locations. Interns will gain hands-on experience and develop their skills under the guidance of an experienced Diesel Mechanic / Mentor with the possibility of becoming a Diesel Mechanic with us upon graduation! Job Duties Under the supervision and guidance of an experienced Diesel Mechanic / Mentor, assist in troubleshooting and repairing diesel engines and heavy equipment. Assist in performing preventative maintenance. Assist in performing electrical and hydraulic repairs. Perform basic service tasks and related work as assigned. Comply with all safety measures and handle company tools and equipment properly. Complete all tasks efficiently and maintain a neat and orderly work area. Job Requirements

Requirements / Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Must be a three-fourths time student in good standing majoring in a discipline or field related to the work to be assigned. Must be eligible to work in the United States. Preferred Qualifications: One year of coursework completed in a diesel technology program. Other: Class schedules must be submitted at the beginning of employment to verify enrollment and transcripts of grades. Temporary, full-time work may be available during breaks. A valid driver's license is required. Knowledge, skills, and abilities: General knowledge of diesel technology, automotive maintenance, repair, and service. Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to learn and follow directions. Self-motivated with a positive attitude and excellent customer service skills. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to safely move, drag, and lift 35 pounds frequently, up to 60 pounds occasionally (without assistance), and 90 or more pounds infrequently (with assistance); climb, bend, or stoop; work in outdoor temperature extremes and work around high-speed traffic.
