Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Electrical/I&C/Combustion Turbine Technician located at Sheldon Station in Hallam, Nebraska. Position closes May 6, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. This position will report to the Electrical/I&C/Combustion Turbine Manager. Position Summary: This individual will specifically be responsible for the operation and maintenance of Sheldon Station (SS) Electrical and Instrument & Controls (I&C) systems along with insuring that all North American Electricity Reliability Council (NERC) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements are maintained in order to ensure the safe, reliable, and economic operation/maintenance of SS. Additionally, this individual will have the responsibility for maintaining the reliability and availability of NPPD’s combustion turbines (CT) located at Hallam, Hebron, and McCook. The person filling this position will be focused on providing the customer services needed for the successful maintenance and operation of SS, as well as the CT. When preforming in a fully proficient role, the incumbent shall be capable of operating and maintaining any of the CT, along with being capable of maintaining the Electrical and I&C controls at SS.

Job Requirements

Education, Training and Experience: Incumbent must be recommended based on the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) results. Two-year associates degree in any of the following: electrical technology, electro-mechanical technology, electronic service technology, jet engine technology, or a related field and one year of experience as a Technician in an industrial setting. OR Equivalent military training and one year of experience as an Electrical, I&C, Electronic, or Jet Turbine Technician in an industrial setting. OR High school diploma/GED and either: A minimum of three years of experience as a (Electrical/I&C/Jet Technology) Technician in an industrial setting. OR Completion of a Technical (Electrical/I&C/Jet Technology) Apprentice Program. OR Other work experience or demonstrated performance indicating the applicant has the skills and ability to perform the required duties of the position. Licenses and/or Certifications: NPPD Clearance Holder certification and/or NPPD Switchman certification may be required in order to meet the needs of the department. This determination will be at the supervisor's discretion and will include an evaluation of the incumbent's ability to meet the minimum requirements for qualification (including years of service, etc.). Upon acceptance into the position and upon meeting the minimum requirements for acceptance, incumbents will be enrolled in NPPD's internal training/certification program and will be required to achieve certification as a condition of continued employment. Once enrolled, failure to achieve/maintain certification may mean removal from the position. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Perform electrical and electronic maintenance required to maintain the availability of the steam generators, steam turbines, electrical generators, and all associated auxiliary and support equipment found in a power generating station. Perform electrical, electronic, and mechanical maintenance required to maintain availability of CT generating units. Perform work on and maintain/tune the controls for both of SS boilers, turbines, and generators. Perform both off-line and on-line equipment audits and inspections. Interpret the need for and perform maintenance based on those interpretations. Research and assist in purchasing of materials and services as required. Investigate parts availability and pricing with vendors, order parts and consumables, as needed, to maintain adequate spares stock at all locations. Provide project management capability by reviewing bids and quotes for accuracy and compliance with technical specifications, assisting potential vendors with needs during bidding process, and assisting supply chain management in writing of contracts and bid specifications. Maintain accurate maintenance, operation, and inventory records. Write notifications of work to be accomplished and confirm time to proper work orders using Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing (SAP) tools, including releasing Preventative Maintenance (PM), technically complete (TECO) orders, creating purchase requisitions, planning, and scheduling department work. Coordinate outages with Doniphan Control Center (DCC) and other areas of NPPD, to include switching orders, clearance orders, etc. This includes operation of the CT units as required by the DCC, or as needed for testing. Ensure reliability for blackstart/system restoration, provide blackstart documentation as required by NERC, and participate in blackstart/system restoration drills. Perform urge tests, perform necessary calculations, and provide documentation as necessary to Energy Manager. Accomplish all monthly, quarterly, yearly reporting as required by NPPD and various governmental agencies. To include but not limited to, monthly station reports, Generating Availability Data System (GADS) reports, Fuel and Megawatt reports, DCC E-trax reporting, environmental fuel usage and emissions reports. Accountable for other duties as assigned. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Pay Grade - 13 Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $39.50 - $49.30 Travel Required: 25% to 50% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need.
