Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist - Neligh, NE

Job Description:

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Reports To: Medical Laboratory Supervisor Wage: $16.00 - $19.00 based on experience Position Summary: Responsible for performing blood draws from patients of all ages. Correctly identify patients and properly label specimens accurately and completely, while maintaining the integrity of the specimen in relation to the test being performed. Performs clerical duties and assists in lab reporting as defined by Antelope Memorial Hospital policy and procedure manuals, safety manual and in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations. Essential Functions: • Safely performs blood collection of patients. • Receives laboratory specimens, orders tests, processes specimens using the centrifuge and distributes specimens to appropriate testing areas communicating special instructions. • Maintain inventory in laboratory storeroom. Reports needed supplies to the Laboratory supervisor or Medical Technologist. • Utilize computer systems for test ordering, result lookup, and data entry. • Monitors reference lab tests and ensures accuracy and timeliness of results. • Maintains confidentially of all pertinent patient care information to assure patient rights are protected. • Performs general duties as required: answering phones, cleaning work areas, compiling, printing, and distributing results etc. • Demonstrates the values of team concept on a consistent basis. • Accurately files paper orders and lab tests. • Interacts with hospital staff in a professional manner. Education/Experience: • High School Diploma or equivalency required • Medical/Phlebotomy experience preferred • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. • Basic computer knowledge. • Ability to communicate effectively • Maintains effective working relationships with all levels of staff • Ability to prioritize work demands with little supervision This institution is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
