Job Description:

Summary: Inspects and performs minor repairs to interior and exterior structures with or without assistance. Responsible for completing work orders, must be able to read and mark measurements accurately with tape measures, read blueprints, have knowledge of International Building Code books, must have the ability to work closely with co-workers and must be able to operate construction, hand and power tools correctly and safely. Able to construct walls to include framing, installing sheetrock, taping joints and finishing. Able to frame and install entry door frames, install flooring of multiple types including vinyl planks, VCT and carpeting. Ability to work with outside contractors and coordinate construction activity such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC. The listing of job duties contained in this job description is not all inclusive. Duties may be added or subtracted at any time due to the needs of the organization. Responsibilities: Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Knowledge of general carpenter responsibilities to include the following: Knowledge of all carpenter tools and materials. Knowledge of types of construction structure. Knowledge of reading and understanding blueprints. Knowledge of International Building Code Books. Basic knowledge in plumbing and electrical systems. Knowledge of repairing or building fine wood furniture and cabinets. Knowledge of paint sprayers and painting equipment. 2. After orientation, ability to assess construction projects for risks to include completing and following pre-construction risk assessments and Infection control risk assessments requirements. 3. Work within regulatory compliance guidelines to include proper dust barriers and dust control, maintaining negative pressure and minimizing the spread of dust in projects as required based on risk assessments. 4. Accurately marks measurements with tape measure to ensure accurate outcome of project completion. 5. Works with departmental co-workers, members of the multi-disciplinary health care team, physicians, physicians' office personnel, patients, general public and outside contractors. 6. Inspects, tests, adjusts and coordinate repairs of all construction projects and provide appropriate follow-up with identified wear and defect of various system checks. 7. Must be able to work with co-workers and instruct co-workers on construction projects, ability to coordinate work with outside contractors to include electrical, plumbing and HVAC. 8. Obtains work assignments from manager or department leader, contacts person requesting repairs and determines details of repairs needed. Obtains tools and supplies required to complete assignments. 9. Performs minor repairs to buildings and structures, performs minor floor repairs, patches and repairs walls, performs work to doors and hardware and preparation and painting for minor projects. 10. Assist in troubleshooting and solving construction problems. 11. Must be able to work alone to solve and repair or build construction projects. 12. Communication skills to include daily updates to department leadership and/or clinical departmental staff where projects are carried out. Basic computer skills to check and send emails. Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, to include after-hours and weekends as necessary. Job Requirements: The requirements listed below must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required. EDUCATION: GED or High School Diploma preferred. EXPERIENCE: Three years of previous experience in field preferred. Skills/Knowledge Requirements: SKILLS: Language Skills -- ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language -- required. Ability to safely operate vehicles, trailers, skid loaders, tractors and other heavy equipment preferred. KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of all carpenter tools and materials required. Knowledge of understanding and reading blueprints required. Knowledge of International Building Code required. Other Certifications/Requirements: Current, valid driver’s license issued in the state of legal residence required. Required to operate FRHS-owned vehicles.
