Job Description:

Performs skilled work and design construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical distribution lines. Involves responsibility for performance of a variety of skilled tasks in construction and maintenance of electrical distribution systems in accordance with standard trade practices. Frequently works with standard trade practices and energized high voltage wires under unfavorable weather conditions, exposing the employee to potential serious hazards. Possess the skills, ability, and knowledge to perform all of the tasks necessary to provide electricity to the customers. Other duties include: snow removal, heavy lifting, light construction, heavy equipment operation, and general labor and upkeep of city owned properties and equipment.

Job Requirements

Considerable knowledge of approved methods, materials and tools used in high tension electric distribution line construction and maintenance work. Considerable knowledge regarding the principles of electric theory as applied to electric distribution systems and of the occupational hazards of power line work and of applicable safety precautions and devices. Knowledge of first aid, including CPR; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to climb poles and work with energized voltage wires, exercising proper safety precautions. Skilled in the use of line tools and testing equipment. In good physical condition and health, with sufficient strength and agility to perform heavy manual labor and climbing tasks under adverse weather conditions. Must possess a valid drivers license and obtain a Nebraska Class B CDL with Air Brakes.
