NORFOLK, NE – Jack Warrick, a former longtime member of the Northeast Community College Board of Governors, has died. He passed away on Monday, October 1, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk. Warrick was 86.
“We are saddened to hear of Mr. Warrick’s passing,” said Dr. Michael Chipps, Northeast president. “He truly believed in the mission of Northeast Community College as he dedicated himself to the constituents of our 20-county service area serving nearly a third of his life on the board. We are grateful for his commitment and service.”
Warrick, of Meadow Grove, was the owner of Warrick Lumber and Grain for a number of years. He served on the Northeast board for 26-years after he was initially was appointed to a vacant District V (Madison County) seat in July 1984 when the institution was known as Northeast Technical Community College (NTCC). He was first elected in 1986 and served until 2010 when he chose not to seek re-election.
Warrick served as board chairperson in 1988, 1989, 1998, and 2006, and vice chair in 1986, 1997, and 2005. He also chaired a number of board committees. Warrick was recognized for his service in 1995 by the Nebraska Community College Association with its Governor’s Award, presented annually to one board member from the state’s community colleges.
When he applied for a seat on the board, Warrick said he had witnessed the growth of Northeast as it served an important part of the “educational network of northeast Nebraska.”
He said, “(Northeast) continues to allow people to attend school close to home, learn a vocation or trade and use this knowledge to better their lives and the lives of the people in our communities.”
Memorial services for Jack Warrick will be on Monday, October 8, at 11 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Meadow Grove. Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden is in charge of arrangements.
