Students seeking a career in accounting now have even more flexibility at Northeast Community College, as the College has expanded its online offerings to include all three accounting credentials: the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, Accounting Diploma, and Accounting Certificate.
The Associate of Arts (AA) in accounting has been available online for several years, and recent instructional updates now allow students to complete the AAS degree, diploma, and certificate entirely online, providing new options for working adults, career changers, and students balancing education with family or professional responsibilities.
“Northeast’s accounting programs have always been designed to meet students where they are,” said Sara Barritt, accounting instructor at Northeast. “By making the AAS degree, diploma, and certificate fully online, we’re removing barriers for students who need flexibility while still delivering the strong, career-focused preparation our accounting graduates are known for.”
Northeast’s accounting programs prepare students for a wide range of in-demand careers, including bookkeeping, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and other entry-level accounting and finance roles across business, healthcare, manufacturing, and nonprofit sectors. Program coursework emphasizes practical, job-ready skills such as financial recordkeeping, accounting software, payroll processing, and foundational business principles.
According to institutional data, Northeast accounting graduates consistently demonstrate strong employment and continuing education outcomes, reflecting both regional workforce demand and the practical nature of the program’s curriculum. Students may choose the credential that best fits their goals, whether entering the workforce quickly through a certificate or diploma or pursuing the AAS degree for broader career advancement opportunities.
“This expansion reflects our commitment to access and workforce alignment,” said Jeff Hoffman, dean of health and public services. “Accounting skills are needed across virtually every industry, and offering all three credentials online ensures students throughout our 20-county service area, and beyond, can gain those skills without relocating or disrupting their lives.”
Students completing the Accounting Certificate or Diploma can also stack their coursework toward the accounting AAS degree, allowing for continued academic and professional growth over time. All accounting programs are taught by experienced faculty with industry expertise and are designed to align with current employer expectations.
