What You'll Learn As An Apprentice
- Caring for animals
- Examining animals for illness and treating as needed
- Preparing rations for animals and feeding the animals
- Marking animals for identification
- Operating farm equipment
- Maintaining operational records
Hands-On Learning Opportunities and Courses
In the apprenticeship program students gain paid, on-the-job training experience working alongside experienced professionals. In addition to hands-on learning opportunities at a jobsite, students build their knowledge in the classroom. Classroom instruction in the Livestock Manager apprenticeship includes:
- Issues in Agriculture, Precision Agriculture
- Animal Science, Feeding, Animal Health
- Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Commodities Marketing
- Economics of Agriculture, Ag Finance, Farm and Ranch Management, Agriculture Law

Apprenticeship is an industry-driven, high quality career pathway where businesses can develop and prepare their future workforce and individuals can obtain paid work experience along with classroom instruction.

930 hours of classroom instruction and approximately 2 years of on-the-job learning.
Several courses are offered online and the rest in-person at the Norfolk campus. On-the-job training is offered at an employer site.

Upon completion apprentices are awarded a National Apprenticeship Credential, Agribusiness Associate of Applied Science Degree

Courses follow a traditional college semester schedule with several courses being offered online and the rest in-person at the Norfolk campus. Classes are typically Monday through Friday daytime hours.
