Concert Tour Shows Music’s Diverse Appeal

Music is for everyone.

The importance of music was conveyed as the Northeast Community College Music Department presented its Tour Concert on Sunday, April 13, at the Lifelong Learning Center.

The concert featured the Singers Express show choir and the Jazz Machine jazz band, performing a range of classic and popular songs by such artists as Stevie Wonder, Santana and Kermit the Frog.

The Northeast music students introduced themselves between songs, stating their names, hometowns, majors and something they like about Northeast. The majors included such areas as business, early childhood education, agriculture, vet tech and more.

And while the students are studying various subjects, they showed the importance of music to each of them, coming together to perform a range of musical styles and instruments even within jazz.

The songs and dance steps enabled students to express their own individuality while performing songs like Superstition, Oye Como Va and the Rainbow Connection. Several of the songs during the roughly 90-minute concert featured various musicians performing solos or prominent in dance steps.

The concert kicked off the Singers Express and Jazz Machine concert tour on Monday and Tuesday, April 14-15. Margaret Schultz is the vocal director and accompanist. Kevin McLouth is the instrumental director.
