Students Will Share Their Writings, Artwork at Annual Event

NORFOLK, Neb. – Students from Northeast Community College will have some of their stories, poetry and artwork featured next week as part of a tradition that dates back to the 1970s.

“Voices Out of Nowhere” will feature a “reveal party” on Tuesday, April 15, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Union 73 near the Coffee Shop. The public is invited to the free event.

Bonnie Johnson-Bartee, Northeast English instructor and Visiting Writers Series coordinator, oversees the annual effort that includes tables of some selected artwork from students. Additionally, some of the students who had their poetry or writing chosen for a soft cover book will be invited to read in front of the audience.

Prizes will be awarded for first and second place for the cover art, poetry and prose. Honorable mentions also will be included.

Works in Voices Out of Nowhere are judged by published poets and writers and staff from the Norfolk Arts Center for inclusion in the publication. Free copies of the book are offered at the Northeast Library in Union 73 after the event, while they last.
