NORFOLK, Neb. – Northeast Community College building construction students seeking jobs and internships were given a chance to meet with potential employers recently.
The students met with 14 employers at a career fair organized by the Northeast Career Services Office. The event was held in the Applied Technology facility on Wednesday, March 5.
The event exposed students to the variety of work that is available to them in construction, electronics and more, with employers coming from all over the region.
Northeast Community College building construction instructors Ryan Hobza, Roger Walker and Curtis Brandt were on hand for the fourth annual event.
“We have received a lot of good reports back from employers, being able to come on campus and keep their name out there (for students),” Brandt said. “We have had some students who graduated our program and remember talking to an individual here (at the career fair) and then a year later they are working for them full-time. That networking is a huge part.”
Hobza said the format used requires students to talk to every employer, so it isn’t just people standing around but a lot of interaction.
The instructors report that there is a good market for graduates, with a need for building construction majors. Northeast’s program attracts many students from beyond the service area, and even other states.
