NORFOLK, Neb. – Music and the stars will be featured during a pair of events coming up at Northeast Community College.
The public is invited to the annual Mid-Winter Concert on Sunday, Feb. 16, at the Lifelong Learning Center at 2 p.m. The concert will feature the Concert Band and Concert Choir, which features Northeast students.
Admission is free, and the concert may be viewed at Northeast Community College.
Next week, the public is invited to the next Hawk Talks, which is a free event. "Beyond Earth: Understanding Our Place in the Universe and the Cosmos Beyond!," will be the topic on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the lower level of Union 73.
It will be delivered by Todd Young, professor of Physics and Astronomy at Wayne State College, with refreshments served at 6:30 p.m.
Through this interactive talk, Young will review Earth's place in the Solar System, the Milky Way galaxy, and the Universe. Also, Young will discuss how humankind has explored the cosmos in the past and discuss some near plans for new explorations.
Topics will include historical astronomy, the Solar System, the large-scale structure of the universe, space exploration and space telescopes. Your journey through time and the universe await.
Paul Muncy, history/geography instructor, originated the Hawk Talks in 2021 after he reached out to his colleagues to see if they would have an interest in developing a series of public lectures for both students and the public. He wants people who desire intellectual stimulation in their lives to attend and make a night of it.
