NORFOLK, Neb. -- Northeast Community College student Carlee Warren of Oakland is the January 2025 TRIO-CSP Student of the Month.
Warren, who is majoring in Veterinary Technology, has an interest in animals.
“I have always been fascinated with the inner working of veterinary medicine and all the behind-the-scenes things,” she said. “I enjoy working with animals and love being able to advocate for their health.”
Warren is the daughter of Jodi (John) Guill and Matthew (Abbie) Warren, sister of Alexis, Garrett, Noah, Berlin, Wyatt, Rhett, and Colin. She is also the proud “dog mom” of Moose, who she adopted through the Veterinary Technology Program here at Northeast.
After graduation she wants to pursue a career working at a zoo or in an animal laboratory.
“I have always been attracted to working with exotic animal types. I also think it would be amazing to calculate a thousand-pound animal’s food portions or experience a dental examination of an elephant.”
Warren is a first-generation college student and understands the importance of the opportunities that a college education will provide her. Her dedication to gaining knowledge and hard work ethic shines through in everything she does.
While here at Northeast, Carlee has been an active member of the TRIO- CSP program, attending many events and activities. She was part of the TRIO-CSP Fall Fast Track program during her freshman year, and this school year she was able to be a Peer Mentor, helping the students love their new home away from home.
Warren is an active member of Northeast’s SAC and works two jobs, one at Velocity Tan in Norfolk, and another at Heartland Classics in Lyons.
In her personal life, she credits her mom, Jodi, with always wanting her to thrive in school by providing her with the necessities that she needs.
“She is the most hard-working woman I’ve met in my life. She is the one who taught me to work for the things I want in life.”
Warren said she is thankful for all the friends that she has made while at Northeast, especially her friend Kaitlynn.
“Kaitlynn is always there to be a great study buddy for all our Vet Tech classes. She is always so supportive in and out of the classroom.”
Warren has a great support system at Northeast that she has relied on and that has helped her with her academic journey. She credits Joshua Schlote, Veterinary Technology Instructor, in making a positive impact in her time here.
“Schlote is a good mix as an instructor, he will always be straight forward with you and holds everyone to higher expectations. He also has some pretty good life advice too.”
Schlote said Warren has always had a positive attitude in all of my classes.
“If the subject of content that has been discussed is something that she does not completely understand, she is very willing to come and discuss this with me and her classmates to ensure that bother her and her classmates understand the information that was provided. In the lab setting, Carless is a leader in that she is always willing to go first even if that means she may fail at her first attempt of the new skill. She takes off of that in stride and stives to do better each time after,” Schlote said.
Warren also is a member of Student Activities Council (SAC).
“Carlee joined the SAC team a bit later than our original students on the team but that hasn’t deterred her from jumping into leadership roles, making friends within the team, knowing everyone on the team, and picking up shifts for working events as soon as she joined,” said Alissa Gubbels, College Engagement coordinator. “Carlee is a fun, spunky, and smart volunteer member of our team! Student Activity Council is so blessed to have her!”
