Northeast celebrates the season with the lighting of a holiday tree

NORFOLK, NE – The spirit of the season is shining brightly on the campus of Northeast Community College. Students, faculty and staff joined Mary Honke, co interim president, as she flipped the switch to light Northeast’s Holiday Tree.

“I hope you are all feeling the same way I am tonight, which is very grateful for the opportunity to be here; to work with all of the colleagues that we have and to serve such wonderful students,” Honke said. “I hope you take the time this season to relax with your family and friends to enjoy the time the together and to reflect on the meaning on the holidays for all of us.”

The ten-foot “pine” is located near the Northeast Library/Resource Center along a pedestrian walkway. It sits under a common-area shelter in the middle of the walkway, which is used heavily throughout the day.

Members of the Northeast Concert Choir sang holiday carols and songs during the ceremony. The group is under the direction of Stewart Cramer with Margaret Schultz as the accompanist.
