Public retirement reception planned for Chipps

NORFOLK, NE – A reception to honor Dr. Michael Chipps’ 40-year of service in higher education will be held later this week.

Chipps, president of Northeast Community College, has announced that he will retire effective May 31, 2019.

Chipps, who began at Northeast in February 2012, is the eighth president of Northeast Community College and its predecessor institutions. Previous to leading Northeast, he served as president and chief executive officer of Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte and McCook. He also held several instructional, student services and administrative positions at Central Community College in Grand Island and Hastings.

A public reception to celebrate Chipps’ career will be held following the Board of Governors’ monthly meeting on Thursday, May 9. It will be held from 2-5 p.m., in the Hawks Point Dining Facility on the Norfolk campus. Signage will be displayed to direct visitors to Hawks Point.

The Northeast Mass Media-Broadcasting Department will livestream the special remarks portion of the reception at 3 p.m. It may be viewed at https://team1sports.com/northeastcc/.

In order to accommodate the reception, the start time for the board’s regular meeting has been moved from 3 p.m. to 1 p.m. on May 9, in the College Welcome Center.
