NORFOLK, NE - Kids will have the opportunity to take to the skies and become junior drone pilots at a camp being offered this summer at Northeast Community College campuses in Norfolk and South Sioux City.
Drone Camp will meet Wednesday through Friday, June 5-7, at Northeast’s Norfolk campus, and Monday through Wednesday, June 10-12, at the South Sioux City extended campus. In both locations, campers may choose from a morning sessions, which runs 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., or an afternoon session, which runs from 1-4 p.m.
The camp is suitable for students nine to fourteen years old.
In this hands-on learning experience, aspiring drone pilots will build their own drones to keep, learn how to fly them and earn their Junior Pilot Wings.
Activities include a basic overview of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations; drone simulators, including a drone racing simulator participants can download to their own computers; and a fast-paced search and rescue mission where participants must use maps, drones and teamwork to deliver items. Participants will also learn about the components of a drone and compete in a race to assemble one of the top-selling drones in the world.
Cost of the camp is $120.
