Hawks Shop moves to temporary location

Hawks Shop moves to temporary location

NORFOLK, NE – The Hawks Shop, the college bookstore on the Norfolk campus of Northeast Community College, is in a new location. However, the move is not permanent.

The Hawks Shop has relocated temporarily from the Student Center to the nearby Library/Resource Center while an expansion and renovation project of the Student Center begins in March.

Hawks Shop Manager Julie Carlson said the store was closed for two-days earlier this week to accommodate the move. The store re-opened on Wednesday in its new location.

“The Hawks Shop will occupy the south part of the building and the Northeast Service (technology) Center and Library will occupy the center and north space,” she said.

Carlson said access to the building will change as the northernmost doors will no longer be designated as emergency exits. The southwest door near the Cox Activities Center will become an emergency exit. Entrance to the Hawks Shop will be through the southeast door or from the Service Center.

“Once the transition to the temporary location is complete, the Hawks Shop will have expanded hours starting March 1st for the spring term,” Carlson said.

Hours of the Hawks Shop are 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Fridays.

Hours for the Service Center and Library are 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 7 a.m.-5 p.m. on Fridays; and 1-9 p.m. on Sundays. It is closed on Saturdays.

Members of the public interested in purchasing Northeast Hawks gear and apparel may still do so in the new location.

Once the expansion and renovation of the Student Center is complete in 2020, many student-focused programs and services that are currently scattered across the Norfolk campus will relocate to the building. The project will also create added space for existing student activities areas, the Hawks Shop store, food service and dining areas.

A Master Site and Facility Plan commissioned by the College in 2017 identified the 34-year-old facility as in need of major repairs and renovation.
