The 2019 program is a compilation of spirituals. A blend of old and new, traditional and global, lively and contemplative, the selections will include “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot,” a Bach arrangement of “My Spirit Be Joyful,” a mariachi setting of “Put Your Hand in the Hand” and the crowd-pleasing Canadian Brass version of “Just a Closer Walk.”
“A Touch of Brass” members include Dave Bohnert, trumpet. He is the band director, trumpet instructor and department chair of the music department at Wayne State College (WSC).
Josh Calkin, tuba. He is assistant band director and professor of low brass at WSC and a Vermont native with degrees from Boise State University and the University of Iowa.
Randy Neuharth, trombone. He is the retired band director at Northeast Community College. Neuharth is a native of northern South Dakota with degrees from South Dakota State University and the University of South Dakota (USD).
Gary Reeves, French horn. He is originally from Wisconsin with degrees from the University of Iowa. He has taught across the country at several locations, including Oregon State University. He is presently an adjunct instructor at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD.
Keith Krueger, founder and director of A Touch of Brass, plays trumpet in the group which was formed in 1984. He is from Northeast Nebraska with a degree from WSC. Krueger has taught public school music, and then performed with the United States Air Force bands for ten years. He is currently farming.
The concert is free and open to the public.
