Sixty student-athletes named to all region academic teams

AMES, IA - Student-athletes at Northeast Community College were not only busy on the field this fall, they were just as busy in the classroom. The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference has announced that 60 student-athletes at Northeast have been named to the 2018 Fall Academic All-Region list.

For the Hawks, the men’s soccer team had 15 members named, with seven being first-team members. The 2018 volleyball team had 11 players named first team honorees.

“We are proud of the student-athletes who worked so hard during the fall semester to earn this award,” said Dean of Student Life and Athletics Kurt Kohler. “It once again demonstrates that Northeast student-athletes hold themselves and their teammates to a standard of excellence, and that the Hawks coaching staff continues to recruit and develop high character student-athletes who embody the Northeast Athletics philosophy and the mission of Northeast Community College.”

Members of the Northeast men’s basketball team named to the first team include

Zackary James, Norfolk; Ben Moxness, Scribner; Caleb Rihanek, Spencer; and Junior Oscar, St. Helens, United Kingdom. Daniel Akuei, Melbourne, Australia, was named to the second team.

Members of the Northeast men’s golf team named to the first team include Matthew Kinston, Springfield; Matthew Schaefer, Fordyce; Andrew Schnoor, Randolph; and Mason Stubbs, Randolph. Hunter Deines, Ravenna; and Grant Sell, Gothenburg, were named to the second team.

Members of the Northeast men’s soccer team named to the first team include Federico Anzoletti, Chioggia, Italy; Tiago DaCosta, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Victor Galterio, Pedreira, Sao Paulo, Brazil; Felipe Santos, Sao Sebastiao, Brazil; Jared Hammerlun, O’Neill; Massimiliano Simonazzi, Castelnovo Di Sotto-Reggio Enuia, Italy; and Victor Vechi, Itajai, Italy. Those members named to the second team are Justin Beaird, Hutchinson, Kansas; Nickolas Gama, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Ricardo Goldner, Brasilia, Brazil; Rocky Guevara, Norfolk; Manuel Jimenez, Lexington; Lagrezio Melo Landim, Brasilia, Brazil; and Breno Neves, Brasilia, Brazil; and Yuri Rocha, Brasilia, Brazil.  

Members of the Northeast women’s basketball team named to the first team are Jade Blackburn, Surrey, United Kingdom; Kori Fischer, South Sioux City; Emina Hadzihusejnovic, Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina; Lauren Hunstad, Parker, South Dakota; Macey Kulhanek, Howells; Blake Mann, Burwell; Teagan Pompa, Elgin, Illinois; Irene Sanz, Vilassar de Mar, Spain; and Jacalyn Schwanebeck, Hyannis.

Katie Richards, Surrey, United Kingdom, was named to the second team.

Members of the Northeast women’s soccer team named to the first team are Taylor Boekhout, Elkhorn; Ellie Gess, Papillion; Emily Goc, Columbus; Ryanne Lueders, Columbus; Elizabeth McCalla, Canon City, Colorado, Dayla Miller, Papillion; Amanda Stricker, Broomfield, Colorado; Emily Simmons, Pierce; Paula Vanegas, Bogota, Colombia; and Alexis Wemhoff, Columbus. Second team members are Tayler Ohu, Aurora, Colorado; Abby Podraza, Columbus; and Beccah Van Brunt, Cameron, Missouri.
