The SafeTALK session will be held Thursday, January 3, from 9:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Northeast Community College South Sioux City extended campus, 1001 College Way.
The session is an alertness training that prepares individuals to become suicide-alert helpers. These helpers can recognize suicidal behaviors in others and take action by connecting them with life-saving intervention resources. Session participants will learn how to notice and respond to situations where suicidal thoughts may be present; recognize that invitations for help are often overlooked; move beyond the common tendency to miss, dismiss and avoid discussion of suicide; apply TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen and Keep Safe); and know community resources and how to connect those with thoughts of suicide to further assistance.
The SafeTALK session is suitable for individuals 15 years of age and older. No prior experience or training is required.
SafeTALK is sponsored by LivingWorks education, a suicide intervention training company that prepares community helpers of all kinds to work in an intervention context.
