NORFOLK, NE – Northeast Community College is commemorating the efforts and sacrifices of current and past members of the armed forces in November. The College’s Student Veterans Organization (SVO) will sponsor a Veterans Day program on Monday, November 12, at 11 a.m., in the Cox Activities Center Theatre on the Northeast campus. The program is free and open to the public.
For those unable to attend, the Northeast Mass Media – Broadcasting program, under the direction of Brian Anderson, instructor, will broadcast the program live. It may be viewed online at https://team1sports.com/northeastcc/.
This year’s program will be composed entirely of Northeast students. The featured speaker will be Joel Goodwater, president of the Northeast Community College Student Veteran Organization. Goodwater completed an associate of science degree from Northeast this past summer and is currently pursuing an Associate of Arts Degree in Business Administration from Northeast and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from Wayne State College.
Goodwater has served seven years in the U.S. Army Reserve as a military police officers with the rank of sergeant with three of those years as a protective services agent. He has been stationed at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba; Kabul, Afghanistan; and Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, along with many stateside locations.
In addition, the Northeast brass ensemble, under the director of Kevin McLouth, director of instrumental studies, and the Northeast Chorus and Show Choir, under the direction of Stewart Cramer, director of vocal activities, will perform during Monday’s program.
Also, the SVO has created a military uniform display in the College Welcome Center through November 12. The display includes uniforms worn by current military students, awards and memorabilia they have earned, and photos and biographies of these students.
Northeast’s food-service provider, Chartwells is accepting donations for the SVO at its location in the College Welcome Center. The SVO uses these donations to purchase gifts for needy families.
Military uniforms and memorabilia belonging to members of the Northeast Community College Student Service Organization are on display in the College’s Admissions and Registration Office as part of the nation’s observance of Veteran’s Day on November 11. Northeast will host a Veterans Day program on Monday, November 12, at 11 a.m., in the Cox Activities Center Theatre on the Northeast campus in Norfolk. The event is open to the public.
